Tencelâ„¢ Modal fibres: very soft and better for the earth
What is Tencelâ„¢ Modal?
Modal are cellulosic fibres that derive from wood, like the better-known rayon or viscose. TENCELâ„¢ Modal fibres are produced by Lenzing. This Austrian company makes these cellulosic fibres in an environmentally friendly production process by using renewable energy and recovering the process chemicals. They are mainly derived from beech wood from controlled forests. TENCELâ„¢ Modal are breathable, and their texture is soft to the touch. Even softer than its sister TENCELâ„¢ Lyocell, also from Lenzing! Like TENCELâ„¢ Lyocell, it also has quick-drying properties, making it the perfect option for a sweaty, warm day!
Why do we use fabrics with Tencelâ„¢ Modal?
TENCEL™ Modal fibres have a lower impact on the environment. Trees use much less water compared to cotton plants. We’re guaranteed that the wood used for TENCEL™ fibres is derived from forests certified by accredited forest management standards. These standards prove that the forest has been managed to preserve biodiversity and that no illegal logging is involved!
The production process is the most significant difference between conventional Modal and TENCELâ„¢ Modal. The TENCELâ„¢ Modal production process is more environmentally friendly than the conventional Modal fibres. The production process uses renewable energy and recovers the process chemicals instead of constantly needing to renew and dispose of them. Keep it in the loop!
TENCELâ„¢ Modal fibres are wood-based fibres, so they are of botanic origin. Lenzing also certifies them as biodegradable under industrial, home, soil and marine conditions. TENCELâ„¢ fibres are, therefore, able to return to our precious earth fully. You could just put the fibres in the ground, and they will completely dissolve and go back to nature!
