Our new sustainable packaging, by Packhelp
From compostable to recyclable packaging
The key to our packaging approach is circularity. We’ve worked with multiple packaging producers over the years. Before, we had compostable mailer bags, but they’re often disposed of incorrectly as there is no clear disposal place for them. We needed to change things up! That is why we were searching for high-quality paper mailers that were FSC or PEFC certified. We chose paper mailers as our packaging for one very important reason: paper recycling is well-organised, and people know how to dispose of it correctly. The paper material is sturdy and can be used again. Another important criteria is a double closure strip so that the customer can reuse the packaging for a possible return. Packhelp ticked off those boxes!
Choosing Packhelp to support local production
Packhelp is located in Warsaw, Poland, and all the packaging at their suppliers is produced locally and EU based. They are collaborating with their suppliers to foster a stronger commitment to social and environmental responsibility. By only working with European producers, they actively reduce carbon emissions associated with transportation while supporting local economies. Another reason why we love to work with them. You can read more about their efforts on their website and in their Sustainability Report.
Our eco-friendly packaging factory
The supplier we use for our paper mailers is Pfluger Koperty, located in Krakow, Poland. They are part of the Bong Group, a Scandinavian company with 1300 employees in 13 countries. This factory employs 150 people, working in 3 shifts, 5 days a week. As they’re based in Poland, they uphold EU standards both on labour and the environment. Bong Group prides itself on their sustainability by working on reducing its environmental impact, creating a safe workplace, and upholding high business ethics. We visited the factory in June 2023 to see the eco-friendly packaging factory with our own eyes.
Good practices
We want to highlight some of the good practices we saw! Throughout the facility, you see pipes running over the ceiling. These pipes are connected to the envelope and mailer machines. Any paper cut-outs are transported to another machine, compressed into bales of paper waste and picked up by a recycling company. Next to that, over 90% of the waste they produce is recycled, and in Winter, they use the heat generated by their air compressors to heat the facility. In addition, they are renting the facility, but the owner has made a green energy investment by putting solar panels on the building roof next to it. The generated solar energy covers 5-7% of their total energy use. After the visit, we can truly say we deliver your sustainable package with a clear conscience to your doorstep.
