We believe sales lead to unconscious purchases, force retailers to compromise their margins and drive the fashion industry to make more for less, season after season after season. However, not doing any sales for seven years has led to some challenges in 2023. We’re here to explain our new solution.

Why we do a Kuyichi Archive Clearance

A part of our collection has been available for a longer time and has yet to find its rightful owners. We must change this, as unsold clothing is a big issue and a waste of precious resources. Approximately one-third of all produced clothing worldwide ends up unsold and is likely to be incinerated or landfilled - practices we strongly oppose. To counter this, we are conducting a deep clean of our stocks through the Kuyichi Archive Clearance, giving our pure goods a chance to find their rightful owners and be worn and cherished.

Rules for our Archive Clearance styles

The Archive Clearance offers a range of discounted styles, from jeans to knitwear. As we have a no-sale policy that eliminates seasonal sales, we have some clear guidelines for the styles ending up in the Kuyichi Archive Clearance. The styles:

have to be on offer for over two years, four full seasons;
can not be part of our CORE collection; and
often have incomplete size ranges.

One of the problems we face is that some sizes have sold out while others remain in stock. When we can not offer a full size range, it becomes challenging to offer it to our retailers. You will find those last remaining sizes in the Kuyichi Archive Clearance.

To further support our retailers, we offer our styles with a discount before they go to the Archive Clearance. We have to support each other if we want to build a healthy fashion industry.

Kuyichi’s commitment to unsold styles

Our no-sale policy makes it difficult to sell 100% of our styles. Fortunately, many of our styles sell out completely, but there are always styles that just don’t hit that spot. If we keep these styles in our warehouse for too long, they become a financial burden. This is a waste of money and a waste of resources invested in the garments. Previously, we resorted to Sample Sales, making these items available only to local customers, but this was not a sustainable long-term solution. We will continue to use the sample sale for samples and products with minor defects, but as our business continues to grow, we recognise the need for a more mature way to deal with unsold stock.
