Why we do a Kuyichi Archive Clearance
Why we do a Kuyichi Archive Clearance
A part of our collection has been available for a longer time and has yet to find its rightful owners. This needs to change, as unsold clothing is a serious issue and a waste of valuable resources. Approximately one third of all clothing produced worldwide remains unsold and often ends up incinerated or landfilled, practices we strongly oppose. To prevent this, we are clearing part of our stock through the Kuyichi Archive Clearance, giving these garments the chance to be worn and appreciated.
Rules for our Archive Clearance styles
The Archive Clearance includes a selection of reduced styles, ranging from jeans to knitwear. We apply clear criteria to determine which styles are included in the Kuyichi Archive Clearance. These styles:
have been part of our collection for over two years, - four full seasons
are not part of our CORE collection
often have incomplete size ranges
One of the challenges we encounter is that some sizes sell out while others remain available. When we cannot offer a complete size range, it becomes difficult to place these styles with our retailers. The remaining sizes are therefore included in the Kuyichi Archive Clearance.
How our approach benefits retailers
Our approach to clearing stock takes our retail partners into account. It helps them maintain their margins and operate in a more stable environment. Retailers are offered styles at a reduced rate before items are made available through the Archive Clearance. We believe collaboration is essential in working towards a healthier fashion industry.
“If we keep these styles in our warehouse for too long, they become a financial burden. This is a waste of money and a waste of resources invested in the garments.”
Kuyichi’s responsibility for unsold styles
Our approach makes it difficult to sell every single style in full. While many styles sell out completely, others do not perform as expected. Keeping these items in our warehouse for too long turns them into a financial burden and results in wasted resources.
In the past, we used sample sales to move these items, limiting availability to local customers. While sample sales will continue to be used for samples and items with minor defects, this was not a sustainable solution for unsold stock in the long term. As our company grows, we acknowledge the need for a more considered way of handling existing inventory. The Kuyichi Archive Clearance is part of that process.
