If we know how our clothes are made, why shouldn't you?
2006 – We Made Denim Transparent
In 2006, we asked ourselves a simple question:
If we know how our clothes are made, why shouldn't our customers?
The answer was MADE-BY.
A Dutch non-profit organisation with one clear mission: to make sustainable fashion common practice. Not the exception, but the standard.
Through MADE-BY, consumers could trace the chain behind their garment. From raw material to finished product. Every step visible.
An industry used to staying silent
The fashion industry was, and still is, not particularly known for its openness.
Supply chains were complex, long and largely invisible to the outside world. Brands communicated about style, about seasons, about trends. But how a garment came to be? That was rarely part of the conversation.
We believed this could be different. And that it should be.
