YOU'VE FOUND YOURSELF A JEANS MADE WITH TENCEL, HOORAY!
Tencel is a certified version of the lyocell fibre, made by Lenzing. It is one of the lowest impact materials out there. Besides, it is breathable and has a super soft skin touch, making it super comfortable to wear. A win-win if you ask us!
We use Tencel from Lenzing over other lyocell for a reason. With Tencel we're guaranteed that the wood that is used to make the lyocell comes from sustainably managed forests. It is certified by FSC or PEFC, both accredited standards for this. So no illegal logging involved!
Besides, Tencel is also certified with the EU Ecolabel, proving that it has a low environmental impact by this standard.
The process of making lyocell turns wood pulp into a filament fibre. For this you need to transform the cellulose with the help of solvents. One of the biggest differences between a normal viscose and lyocell is that it uses a closed-loop production process. Meaning that over 99% of the resources are captured and recycled from the process. Making it possible to use the chemicals over and over again instead of needing to constantly renew and disposing of them.
All Tencel is made from cellulose. Cellulose comes from plant cell walls and is what gives strength to plants and wood. After it is turned into the yarn, it still is cellulose, so completely natural. Feeling cool on your skin for the hotter days.
Tencel is even certified to be biodegradable and compostable under industrial, home, soil and marine conditions. You could just put it in the ground and it will completely dissolve and go back to nature!
